Data Themes

Data themes describe the subject domains to which datasets are related.

The European Union INSPIRE (Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the European Community) Directive defines a taxonomy of data themes.

Another data taxonomy, known as topic categories, is imposed by ISO.

Data Themes in Dateno​

A dataset can take one or more data themes or have no data theme at all.

The search engine assigns data themes to datasets based on declarations made by the dataset publisher.

If a subset of datasets is selected, either by entering a full-text query or by choosing options in other facets, the Data theme facet displays only the data themes related to the selected datasets.

  • Rely on data themes when searching for datasets published by organizations that are supposed to comply with European standards and directives.
