Data Formats

A data format is a method that software applications utilize for representing data of a certain data type.

Data Formats in Dateno

Data formats describe dataset resource files that directly contain data.

Each data file embodies a certain data type. Since a dataset can possess several data files, more than one data format can be associated with it.

The search engine automatically detects the data formats used in the indexed datasets.

If a subset of datasets is selected, either by entering a full-text query or by choosing options in other facets, the Formats facet displays only the data formats related to the selected datasets.

An archive file is recognized as a single file with a zip, 7z, or another archive file format, regardless of the data types of the packed files. Currently, the search engine does not parse archives.

Dataset Search Tips

  • If no data formats are chosen in the Formats facet, then search results might include datasets lacking data files. Select at least one data format to include only datasets that provide data files.

  • Choose a few data formats associated with a data type that match your needs. For example, choose csv, xls, and xlsx if you are looking for tabulated data.
